ABSMCC to Monitor Social Media Trends During Presidential Election

The College of Communication and Information’s Adam Brown Social Media Command Center will be monitoring the social media conversation and trends before, during and after the presidential election.

PhD student Alex Carter, the head graduate assistant in the lab, has been leading the center’s monitoring and coverage of the debates heading into the election.

In addition to Carter, the four-person Adam Brown Social Media Command Center team who will be covering the election includes advertising and public relations associate professor Courtney Childers, who is executive director of the lab, and graduate assistants Jason Stamm (journalism and electronic media) and Jessica Barfield (information sciences).

The group will be posting their findings on their website and in real-time on their Twitter account @utccimcc. They can also be a resource for media outlets covering the election.

The lab uses the Salesforce Social Studio to analyze social media trends and conversation in real time. The technology has also allowed them to access the tools virtually during the pandemic.
